Stem CellsMankind (at least in America) is entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. However, does that give us the right to "play God" as Victor Frankenstein did when creating a new man? Though Frankenstein is a fictional story, advances in technology bring possibilities comparable to the creation of an artificial man. Stem cells have the potential to become any type of cell in the body. However, they are relatively taboo because there is only one source- human fetuses. With the limited access to stem cells, progress has been significantly hindered, however, research continues. Is it justified, was Frankenstein justified? Will it backfire, just like it did for Frankenstein? |
